Taylor Porter Partner Erin Sayes Kenny has become the first Baton Rouge lawyer to receive the honor of “On the Rise – Top 40 Young Lawyers,” bestowed by the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. The distinction provides national recognition for ABA young lawyer members who exemplify a broad range of high achievement, innovation, vision, leadership and legal and community service.
The American Bar Association has more than 400,000 members and works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education, and works to build public understanding around the world of the importance of the rule of law.
A selection committee comprised of practicing attorneys in private practice and in-house positions reviewed nominations and made selections based on the reputation of the nominator, the professional relationship between the nominator and the nominee and the nominator’s firsthand knowledge of the nominee’s experience, skill and character. Nominees had to be 36 years old or younger or admitted to practice for five years or less.
Kenny was nominated for the award by the Baton Rouge Bar Association.
At the age of 32, Kenny is a Partner, Recruiting Committee co-chair, and key member of the Taylor Porter alcoholic beverage licensing and related enforcement issues practice. She represents national and local companies in the hospitality industry, including restaurants, hotels and retail stores, with an emphasis in alcoholic beverage licensing, compliance and enforcement issues. She is an active member of industry organizations, including the National Association of Licensing and Compliance Professionals, and she represents Taylor Porter at annual conferences to connect with national industry leaders. Kenny also maintains a varied state and federal civil litigation and appellate practice, with an emphasis in commercial and tort litigation, including insurance defense and insurance coverage cases. Kenny has been named by her peers among the Louisiana Super Lawyers “Rising Stars” and among the Best Lawyers in America.
An active member of the Baton Rouge legal community, Kenny is the chair-elect of the Baton Rouge Bar Association Young Lawyers Section Council. Kenny’s work on the YLS Council includes organizing and presenting various young lawyer outreach programs, such as continuing legal education (“CLE”) seminars, panel discussions with local area judges, local courthouse tours for newly admitted lawyers, and regular social events, all designed to cultivate professionalism and congeniality among the Baton Rouge legal community.
Kenny just completed a three-year term as a board member for the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel and has been a member of the LADC Young Lawyers Committee since 2016. The LADC Young Lawyers Committee helps younger lawyers gain exposure to their fields of interest through seminars and social events with other more experienced lawyers and judges across the state. In 2015, the LADC recognized Kenny as a Finalist for the Frank L. Maraist Award for outstanding contribution to the legal profession and education.
Through the Baton Rouge Bar Foundation Holiday Star Project, Kenny has participated as the liaison for Taylor Porter to collect and distribute Christmas gifts for local children in need. Every year, through Kenny’s leadership within the Firm, Taylor Porter delivered holiday gifts to 70 children and 28 families to St. Anthony Catholic Church, one of the agencies served through the Holiday Star Project.
Additionally, Kenny serves the community as a board member of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge. Since 2011, she has helped the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge raise more than $500,000 through the annual Steak & Stake fundraiser, impacting the lives of the more than 1,200 youth that the Club serves annually across the greater Baton Rouge area.
