T. MacDougall Womack

After graduating in 1979 from the Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Mr. Womack won judicial clerkships in the Louisiana State District and Appellate Courts. Afterwards, in 1984, he began private practice with Durrett, Hardin, Hunter, Dameron & Fritchie, working under Roger M. Fritchie, one of the premier trial lawyers in Louisiana. While working for Roger Fritchie, Mr. Womack began representing hospitals and physicians, defending medical malpractice, general liability, and medical staffing cases.

Upon the death of Mr. Fritchie, Mr. Womack moved his practice to Taylor Porter, where he is Of Counsel. Mr. Womack has continued the representation of hospitals and physicians, but additionally, has expanded his practice into the areas of toxic tort and environmental regulatory work.

A 1976 graduate of LSU, Mr. Womack is admitted to practice in all Louisiana state courts, the Federal District Courts for the Middle, Eastern, and Western Districts of Louisiana, and the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

He is a member of the Louisiana and Baton Rouge Bar Associations and the Defense Research Institute. Mr. Womack is ranked by his peers in Best Lawyers in America in commercial litigation.

In 2017, Mr. Womack received the “Pro Bono Publico Award” from the Louisiana State Bar Association for his outstanding commitment to pro bono service and volunteerism. Mr. Womack also is a 2011 recipient of the Century Club Award for donating over 100 hours of legal services to the Pro Bono Project, and the 2012 recipient of the Leah Hipple McKay Memorial Award for Outstanding Volunteerism.

• Lead counsel for a large, regional medical center in defense of a RICO claim asserted by a disgruntled physician who had been involuntarily removed from the medical staff of the hospital.
• Lead counsel for the same hospital in defense of a medical malpractice case which was twice the subject of Louisiana Supreme Court opinions, one of which remains the seminal case in Louisiana on the law of directed verdicts in the context of the application of the legal doctrine res ipsa loquitur.
• Co-defense counsel in multiple bench and jury trials involving class action toxic tort cases defending claims asserted by over 14,000 Louisiana and Mississippi residents.
• Legal counsel for generic pharmaceutical company and the world’s largest generic pharmaceutical company defending claims brought by the Louisiana Attorney General in the Average Wholesale Price litigation.
• Legal counsel for the world’s largest generic pharmaceutical company defending claims brought by the Louisiana Attorney General in the national drug code litigation.
• Legal counsel for healthcare company in the GranuFlo litigation.
